My name is Katrina Palmer and I am a poet and artist living in the beautiful town of Richmond North Yorkshire. I design and make a unique range of hand made cards and artworks in my home studio that feature my original poetry - hence the name Art and Rhyme
Initially I am a poet - I have written poetry throughout my life - my poems are never planned nor do they follow a formula - they just come freely and as a gift - my words have been known to make people cry and in fact their beauty can make me cry sometimes too ! I write about the beauty of nature , the seasons and themes of love and friendship as well as words of encouragement in these tough times - I try not to be overly sentimental in my words as some traditional cards can be - my words come from my own lived experience
After an exceptionally tough time with my mental health when I left my previous business selling organic vegetables - I felt a compelling need to start creating things and I wanted to combine the words of my poems with the imagery and colours associated with them

I am passionate about what I create and both the gift of writing and the process of creating is brilliant for me and my mental wellbeing - for me

I hope my words and designs can share some of the true meaning of art and poetry with you and to whomever you send a beautiful hand made card to
Every design has my poetry woven into it and every card has my poem printed on the back
I have come a long way from the start of making multiple card designs simply by hand cutting out each shape and sticking it in place and have steadily improved often through good fortune - learning about the design website Canva during a free training course for example has transformed my ability to combine words pictures in a way I never imagined possible ( and I am still learning !) .But also I benefitted from somebodies extraordinary craft hoard which gifted me incredibly beautiful papers and card which I can use to create beautiful backdrops
I now design an original collage making use of the many beautiful patterned papers, materials and craft punches and stencils I have gathered into my craft room and then use Canva design tools to add the words of my poems . These designs are then printed at home and used to create the cards
I have also expanded the range of what I make to include framed pictures and most recently some brand new A3 collages and prints - I feel so inspired by the work of other artists I see online who are combining words and images together
One of my latest developments is to offer some collective workshops because I would love to share the benefit and joy of art and creativity with others and share my journey .
